Friends of the Earth Australia needs your help to put pressure on its new government to deliver on policies relating to the displacement of climate refugees in the Pacific. Pacific Island nations are increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events, collapsing ecosystems and the contamination of their fresh water and crops with salt water.

Filipino people have taken to the streets again in an attempt to oust President Arroyo, frustrated by a long series of scandals. The most recent to hit the Philippine government is the NBN-ZTE broadband network project, with accusations against Arroyo's husband that he sought kick-backs from the deal. Ongoing Senate hearings on the allegations have exposed to the Filipino people the web of corruption amongst Arroyo's officials and allies. A beleaguered Arroyo publicly admitted to knowing about "anomalies" of the deal much earlier.

Urge India to abandon steel megaproject

In a massive resource sell-out, India has granted South Korean multinational Pohong Steel Corporation (POSCO) permission for a huge steel mining, manufacturing and export project in Orissa state. Protesters against the project have already been violently attacked. Now police appear set to launch an armed attack as they attempt to occupy part of the 6,000 acres the government promised to POSCO at a throwaway price.
