Ecological debt is a
concept and a reality.
The idea was
developed at beginning of the nineties
as a way of illustrating the fact that
from colonial times Latin America has
been plundered for its raw materials,
agricultural products, and local
knowledge about seeds and medicinal
plants. Since the beginning of the
industrial revolution, this process has
accelerated, and its consequences are
still not fully understood.
