Francesco Martone (10 May 1961) is currently Senator of the Italian Republic Party of the European Left. Furthermore he has been parliamentarian in Italy, International Council Member of Parliamentarians for Nuclear Disarmament (PNND) and member of PGA (Parliamentarians for Global Action), Member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Member of the Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal, and juror (Berne, Vienna 2006). From 1990 to 2001, Mr Martone worked at Greenpeace, of which the last three years as President of the Italian chapter.
He has been involved in the World Social Forum processes in Porto Alegre, London, Paris, Quito, and parallel events in occasion of the G8, World Bank/IMF, WTO gatherings. He currently works on development aid, globalization, debt and IFIs, human rights, international relations, and global governance, nuclear disarmament and works with various elements of written press.
Mr Martone is married to Maria Rosa Jijon Calderon, a visual artist and migrant rights’ activist from Ecuador.
