disappearance of environmentalist jose salgado
Friends of the Earth Colombia are asking for your help to show solidarity with José Abelardo Salgado, an environmentalist who disappeared on 31 March 2008.
At the time of his disappearance Mr Salgado was on his way to provide environmental consultancy services in Cerro Azul in the Valle del Cauca region in Colombia.
Mr Salgado is a member of FEDENA-Fundación Ecológica Fenicia Defensa Natural, a local Colombian environmental group. In the last 15 years he has undertaken activities aimed at the restoration, protection and conservation of the environment in the central region of Valle del Cauca, he was the founder and current facilitator of the FEDENA foundation and the whole process around the Páramo del Duende (Duende highlands), and he created the Duende Carnival in the district of Fenicia.
He has contributed to strengthen the Red de Turismo del Centro delValle (a tourism network in the central region of the Valle del Cauca department), a body that is coordinated by the Tuluá Chamber of Commerce and the Governor´s office. This is one of many projects he has led to further the environmental, cultural and social development of his community.
His social, community and environmental work within his community and the region have earned him a high degree of recognition and respect.
