european bank: ten years of
misinformation and secrecy
invitation to a press conference
CEE Bankwatch Network and Friends of the
Earth International are holding a press
conference on Friday April 20th in London, on
the occasion of the 10th Aniversary and
Annual Meeting of the European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
A new report of the EBRD's Public
Information Policy -- EBRD: a Decade of
Misinformation and Secrecy -- will be
presented by CEE Bankwatch Network. This
paper outlines major deficiencies of the
current EBRD information policy and critiques
several important projects approved by the
EBRD last year, as well as providing an
overview of damaging projects approved during
the past ten years. The press conference will
feature Eastern European experts on those
projects. The new report clearly shows that
10 years after being created, the EBRD still
uses public information and public
participation standards that would not be
acceptable in European Union member
countries.
Time for the press conference: April 20th,
2001 at 11.30 a.m. Location: Park Crescent
Conference Centre, Gullbenkian Room, 229
Great Portland Street, Regent's Park
(Opposite Great Portland Street Underground
Station) Phone: 0207-631-8306
