Speechless novel Launched

LONDON (UK) / AMSTERDAM (THE NETHERLANDS) -- August 17, 2009 – A passionate and purely visual world history graphic novel called 'Speechless' will be published on September 4, 2009.

The 128 page full colour, word-free book was drawn by cartoonist Polyp and co-produced by Friends of the Earth International and the New Internationalist.

A complimentary copy can be requested by accredited journalists who intend to write a review of the graphic novel, which is a poignant and ambitious work of cartoon magic, condensing world history from the Big Bang to Climate Chaos into a graphic and completely wordless narrative.

“Speechless screams out a simple message - that the economic and environmental injustices that surround us are so blatant and outrageous they need no words to describe them,” said the British cartoonist Polyp.

Speechless invites the reader to watch the history of our world through fresh eyes as characters living on its miniature version of the planet sweep through a journey from the stone age to the present day - and into a future the readers themselves are asked to create... A bonus book within the book tells a similar story in a bold 16-images parable.

“When we see the world as it really is, our perspective changes. This book gives us a step-back view of the world. It will leave readers speechless and transform many into activists for change. With the world in turmoil, it is a good time to pause, speechless but active,” said the Nigerian chair of Friends of the Earth International, Nnimmo Bassey.

Speechless is printed on 100% recycled paper.
