Statement on police tactics in Copenhagen

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK -- Commenting on police tactics in Copenhagen Saturday 12 December, Palle Bendsen of NOAH / Friends of the Earth Denmark said:

“Tens of thousands of people from across the world have marched peacefully in Copenhagen today to call for urgent international action to avoid catastrophic climate change.

“We are deeply alarmed by some of the Danish police tactics which have led to numerous peaceful protesters being indiscriminately detained.

“Danish police must allow people to peacefully protest against the lack of international urgency in tackling climate change – using their new powers to stamp down on large numbers of innocent marchers is completely unacceptable.”
