dangerous resistance
ecuadorian activists targeted by mining
company
Los Encuentros is a small town in Ecuador's
southern Amazon region. People there have
being fighting for their ecological rights
and food sovereignty since last year, when
the Energy and Mining Ministry of Ecuador
signed a mining concession for 2500
hectares along the Zamora and Nangaritza
rivers.
Community activist leaders have been
charged for attempted murder and kidnapping
by the mining companies, despite the fact
that these campesinos are non-violent. You
can support their struggle via FoE
Ecuador's website (
www.accionecologica.org
) or
contact them at pacispe@hotmail.com and
mineria@accionecologica.org.
