poison fire: foei documentary focuses on gas flaring in nigeria

A film-maker with a strong “participatory” approach finalized a Friends of the Earth International-commissioned documentary on the environmental and social impacts of oil production and gas flaring in Nigeria in 2007.

climate justice projectA short version of the documentary, entitled “Poison Fire”, was aired on MTV before its March 2008 pre-screening at the Amnesty “Movies that Matter” film festival in Amsterdam.

The involvement of local volunteers making video testimonies in the Niger Delta ensured local participation in the documentary, which has also been and will continue to be screened locally.

The documentary exposes gas flaring as a human rights, environmental and economic monstrosity.
