guatemala: referenda against mining

Friends of the Earth Guatemala stands in solidarity with people in several municipalities who organized a major community consultation on gold mining in 2007.

 

Guatemala mining referendumA total of 44,837 people participated in the consultation, and nearly all of them said “NO” to the mining extraction plans. The communities involved have shown the entire world that the promotion of mining projects within their territory cannot be allowed.
