france: foe celebrates gm maize ban victory
This year, against all expectations, campaigners in France managed to compel their government to ban the only genetically-modified maize grown in the country.
The move must be seen as a major victory, particularly in light of right-wing Nicolas Sarkozy having being recently elected as president.
Friends of the Earth France was one of the key groups campaigning on this issue. Their victory is very important not only for France, but also for the GMO-free (genetically modified organism-free) Europe campaign.
