art, culture and popular education

In 2008, the International Secretariat worked with our member groups around the world in order to multiply the creative initiatives taking place at all levels in the federation.

creative approachesWe have worked with many groups on the creation and sharing of existing photo exhibits, including on climate change (with FoE Swaziland and FoE Cyprus); on Shell (with FoE Netherlands), on indigenous peoples and forests (with FoE Finland), and on extractive industries (with FoE Europe). In addition, we ran our own international photo competition for the third year running, on the theme of Dreams, Hopes and Possibilities for a Better Future.

We supported an impressive art exhibit by FoE Palestine, a collection of cartoons on the theme of agrofuels by FoE Brazil, a music cd and performances on the issue of water by FoE Argentina, and popular education material for children produced by our group in Paraguay.

In November, the International Secretariat worked with FoE Chile and FoE Honduras to prepare a cultural program as part of our Bi-annual General Meeting. The cultural program included art and photo exhibits by our member groups from around the world, and performances by local community and professional artists. Together with FoE Chile and local youth from Honduras, we produced beautiful t-shirts for participants.
