trainings for communicators, journalists and campaigners
Three trainers – the Friends of the Earth International media coordinator, a senior trainer from InterPress Service (IPS) and a journalist from Real World Radio, provided the training for 16 campaigners.
We also organized two separate trainings in Zagreb from 12-14th September 2008, one for journalists and another for communicators. The two target groups (journalists and non-profit communicators) participated in separate sessions, but also shared experiences and opinions during joint sessions.
This was the first training for journalists organized by Friends of the Earth International, and the participants found the sessions very useful. The training focused on “Reporting on Climate Justice”, and was delivered to 8 accredited journalists from important media outlets throughout Europe. The training included presentations about climate-related issues in Nigeria and Brazil, and provided participants with the tools to produce appealing stories related to climate justice.
The communicators training was given to 10 spokespeople and communicators from NGOs, mostly national Friends of the Earth groups based in Europe. The training empowered participants with the skills and tools needed to reach target audiences and the media with specific messages. Media training sessions with on-camera interviews and a media skillshare were part of the package.
The Friends of the Earth International media coordinator facilitated the trainings with the support of two external trainers: a senior trainer from Inter Press Service (IPS) and a senior journalist from Radio Netherlands.
