mission statement
Friends of the Earth International is a
global federation of national environmental
organizations that aims to:
-
protect the earth against further
deterioration and repair damage inflicted
upon the environment by human activities
and negligence;
-
preserve the earth’s ecological,
cultural and ethnic diversity;
-
increase public participation and
democratic decision-making, both of which
are vital to the protection of the
environment and the sound management of
natural resources;
-
achieve social, economic and political
justice and equal access to resources and
opportunities for men and women on the
local, national, regional and international
levels;
-
promote environmentally sustainable
development on the local, national,
regional and global levels.
Friends of the Earth International is the
world’s largest grassroots environmental
network, uniting 71 diverse national member
groups and some 5,000 local activist groups
on every continent.
With approximately 1.5 million members and
supporters around the world, we campaign on
today’s most urgent environmental and social
issues. We challenge the current model of
economic and corporate globalization, and
promote solutions that will help to create
environmentally sustainable and socially just
societies.
Our decentralized and democratic structure
allows all member groups to participate in
decision-making. Our international positions
are informed and strengthened by our work
with communities, and our alliances with
indigenous peoples, farmers’movements, trade
unions, human rights groups and others.
