forests and climate change
Deforestation is a significant cause of climate change, accounting for nearly 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions every year. It also threatens the world’s biodiversity and imperils the 60 million indigenous people who are entirely dependent upon forests.
Friends of the Earth International challenges the risks in current proposals to 'reduce deforestation' (REDD) and rejects all dangerous World Bank forest carbon trading initiatives. We work with local communities for the recognition of land rights. We are calling for new and real decisions to stop deforestation, once and for all.
