  1. Can my organization become a member of Friends of the Earth?

Please visit www.foei.org/groups/ to find out if there is an existing Friends of the Earth group in your country. If there is, you should contact that group about cooperation as Friends of the Earth International's structure allows only one member group per country.

If there is no existing Friends of the Earth group in your country and your group is interested in applying for membership, please bear in mind that we have very strict membership criteria. If you feel that your group meets these criteria, you can ask for a membership application form by e-mailing .

  2. Can I become a member of Friends of the Earth International?

Friends of the Earth International does not have individual members, although most of our national groups around the world do. You can support our international activities and become involved in our campaigns in the following ways: subscribing to LINK, ordering our publications, making a donation (all via www.foei.org/support.html ), or by joining our cyberaction alert list to take part in our electronic actions.

And of course we encourage you to join your national or local Friends of the Earth group. Please contact them at the addresses listed on our website .

  3. How many members does Friends of the Earth International have?

Friends of the Earth International has 69 member groups and 15 affiliate groups. All of the groups together have a total of over 2 million members and supporters around the world.
  4. Can you send me the contact details for the Friends of the Earth group in a specific country?

You can find a complete list of the contact details of all member groups of Friends of the Earth International here. If there is no group listed for a specific country this means that we do not yet have a group there.
  5. Can you send me some general information about rainforests (or climate change, pollution, food, etc.) for my school project?

We are currently working on a children/youth section of our website. In the meantime, we suggest that you visit these excellent sites for more general information on environmental issues: www.ran.org/info_center/teacherstudent.html or www.rainforestinfo.org.au/children/chlinks.htm (rainforests) or www.ukrivers.net/climate.html (climate).
Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland also has some good publications on issues like food and pollution at www.foe.co.uk/pubsinfo/pubscat/educators.html
  6. How is Friends of the Earth International funded?

Friends of the Earth International is funded through contributions from our member groups as well as donations from governments and foundations. Please see our annual report for details.
  7. Can you help fund my project/education?

Friends of the Earth International is a campaigning organization and is not able to offer financial assistance. You can look at the website of BothEnds ( www.bothends.org ) for ideas on where to find funding.
  8. Are you accepting applications for jobs, internships or volunteer positions?

Vacancies at the Friends of the Earth International Secretariat are fairly infrequent as we are a small office. When they do occur, they are posted on our website, so keep checking!

We do not have funding for paid internships, nor do we have excess desk and computer capacity to host many interns and volunteers, but depending on your skills and field of study there could be a possibility that we can accommodate you. Please keep in mind that we are a rather small secretariat, the actual campaign work carried out by our office is limited. Study our website thoroughly to find out whether your interest fits in what we do. We also advertise our vacancies for volunteers on our website, so please check this. Finally: we have no jobs or tasks available for environmental engineers.

If there is a Friends of the Earth member group in your country, please contact them to find out about jobs, internships or volunteer positions. We regret that we do not have the resources to deal applications on behalf of our member groups.
  9. Can you make a link to my website or my organization's website?

We currently only make links to organizations working on our campaign issues. If you think your website is suitable for a link, please send your request for a link to and we will pass it along to the campaign coordinators who decide which organizations are linked to on our site.
  10. How can I live in a more environmentally-friendly manner?

There are many simple steps that can be taken. A number of national Friends of the Earth groups around the world have done excellent publications on this subject, so we suggest that you contact a group in your country or region of the world. In addition, Friends of the Earth International England, Wales and Northern Ireland has done publications in English on themes including choosing environmentally friendly wood, eco-renovation, creating a "green" office, sustainable gardening, energy saving, cutting your car use, and waste reduction and recycling.

    Visit www.foe.co.uk/pubsinfo/pubscat/practical.html for details.
