Friends of the Earth Curaçao founders receive royal honours

Friends of the Earth Curaçao has been awarded the Silver Carnation by Prince Bernhard of The Netherlands.
The organization's President, Yvette Raveneau, and the Director, Lloyd Narain, were given the award in recognition of their fifteen years' work for nature conservation in the Dutch colony.
The awards are given to people who have made an important contribution to culture or nature conservation in The Netherlands or the Dutch Antilles.
They set up Sosiedat Amigu di Tera in 1988, along with a foundation for nature, culture and the environment called Fundashon Defensa Ambiental.
Amigu di Tera have organized many education projects, and looked after several valuable conservation sites. Through their efforts they have won a great deal of popular support from the people of Curaçao.
The 93-year-old Prince traditionally gives the awards in the week before his birthday on the 29th June. This year he arrived at the Dam Palace in Amsterdam with his daughter, Queen Beatrix.
