meet the staff

The Friends of the Earth International Secretariat supports and strengthens a global network of environmental activist groups and its international campaigns for an environmentally and socially just and sustainable world.

The small Friends of the Earth International Secretariat supports the network's campaigns and other activities through fundraising, campaign coordination, workshops, translations, electronic communications, information collection and dissemination, database maintenance and publications. The work of the international secretariat depends heavily upon volunteers.

image: Marijke Torfs Marijke Torfs is Friends of the Earth International's International Coordinator. She worked for 11 years at Friends of the Earth US, where she led the international team. She has a masters in international business administration. Marijke is originally from Belgium.
image: Ann Doherty Ann Doherty has been the Communications Officer and LINK editor since early 1995. She previously worked with Friends of the Earth International affiliate A SEED, first in New York and then in Amsterdam. Originally from the United States, she has studied literature and has an advanced degree in international politics. She has three children.
Wieke Wagemaar 2
Wieke Wagenaar started as Financial Manager in May 2000. She previously coordinated the international secretariat of an NGO that focused on academic freedom and the right to education. She studied English language and literature in Amsterdam, and philosophy in Groningen.
image: Mae Ocampo Mae Ocampo has been the International Campaigns Coordinator since May 2000. She worked for LRC-KsK/Friends of the Earth Philippines since 1995 as the Information/Liaison Officer of the NGO Forum on the Asian Development Bank.
image: Janneke Bruil Janneke Bruil joined the office in September 2000 after finishing her studies in International Relations in the Netherlands. She was a volunteer with a local Friends of the Earth  group and spent time in Latin America and Africa. She co-coordinates the campaign on International Financial Institutions.
image: Sisi Nutt Sisi Nutt joined as Extranet Coordinator in June 2002. She is English Mexican, born in Libya, and brought up in Hong Kong, and has a degree in animation. She has worked as a CD ROM designer, and worked in ASEED as a Linux sysadmin.
image: Niccolo Sarno Niccolo' Sarno joined as Media Coordinator in July 2002. An Italian journalist fluent in four languages, he specialises in communications and North-South issues. Previously, he worked at Greenpeace and IPS Third World news agency.
image: Marta Zogbi Marta Zogbi is the Project Officer. From Argentina, where she studied law, Marta has a masters degree in Social Arts and wrote her thesis on the causes of the Argentinian political economic crisis. She has 2 children.

Longgena Ginting coordinates the campaign on International Financial Institutions. Previously he was the director of WALHI/ Firends of the Earth Indonesia.
image: Analia Penchaszadeh Analia Penchaszadeh joined as International Campaigns Facilitator in early 2006. She is originally from Argentina and grew up in New York City. She organized Latino communities in NYC on environmental justice issues and most recently worked at Jobs with Justice, a US-based workers' rights organization.
Grace Nijbroek is the Bookkeeper. She was born in Suriname, and graduated in Cultural Anthropology, but pursued a career in financial work. She has worked in Africa for 7 years, in The Gambia and in Malawi. More recently, she worked as financial officer for Cordaid.
sophie Sophie Pritchard started work as a fundraiser in June 2007. She has worked and volunteered with animal and environmental charities around the world.
isis.jpg Isis Alvarez is the Office Coordinator. She is originally from Colombia where she studied Biology. She moved to Amsterdam to undertake a Masters in Environment and

We rely on the generous support of volunteers who give up their time to help keep the secretariat running smoothly, assisting with communications, web, information requests, and much more.


pat crowley Pat Crowley is an editor/writer for a medical communications agency. His great passion in life is writing/playing/recording music in his home studio. He was born in England but  has lived in the Netherlands for almost twenty years, and in Amsterdam for the last fifteen. He volunteers for the communications team, writing and editing web pages. His friends are happy that he is making a positive contribution instead of complaining to them about the wastage created by shrink-wrapping the vegetables on display at the supermarkets, and other environmental issues.
Franca Franca Michienzi, is from Italy and worked for Greenpeace International Photo Desk for the last 10 years. Now, while looking for a new job, she is helping to catalogue photos.
saskia Saskia von Werder is a volunteer helping with communications tasks. She spent one month at the secretariat and is currently studying geography/political sciences/biology in Bonn, Germany.


Stéphanie van de Wiel Stéphanie van de Wiel joined in November 2007 as an information request volunteer. She studied international relations in Amsterdam and Costa Rica and is currently working for the G4 (four big cities in the Netherlands) in the area of traffic and transport.

Dominique Jans is an information request volunteer. She has a bachelors degree in English language and Culture and is currently studying Political Science for a masters at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. She has lived and studied in Utrecht but is now living in Amsterdam.
nina Nina Rodriguez Dubskyis the foodbook coordinator, a new publication about delicious food and cultures from around the world. Originally from France, she has a masters in International Relations and now lives  in Amsterdam.
Sameena
Sameena Safiruddin is a volunteer working on image library and the photo competition. She studied Fine Arts at the Artez in Arnhem and has a Masters in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the VU in Amsterdam. Sameena was brought up in Pakistan and Kenya. She is looking for work with social and sustainable projects as a photographer/film maker and anthropologist.
louise
Louise Stoddard is a web volunteer with FoEI and has been living in Amsterdam since February. She currently works as a freelance writer. Before coming to the Netherlands Louise was based at the Institute for Development Studies in the UK, where she was a resource guide editor specialising in security and humanitarian issues. Her background is in journalism and international development.
anna
Anna Harnmeijer joined FoEI as an editor in May 2008. She studied biology and environmental resource management and is currently doing a MSc in environmental systems analysis in Wageningen, where she lives on a student farm. She grew up in Southern Africa and South-East Asia.
