Amigos de la Tierra / Friends of the Earth Spain
Amigos de la Tierra España was founded in 1979 and became a member of FoEI at the beginning of the 1980s.
Amigos de la Tierra currently has 6 active local groups around the country. With a central office in Madrid, Amigos de la Tierra also runs an information/education centre for the general public called As Corcerizas in Galicia. This provides environmental information and educational materials. Besides, it is a unique reference in sustainable construction. The centre also promotes voluntary youth programmes.
Amigos de la Tierra puts pressure on national, regional and local governments and companies to protect the environment and natural resources.
Promotes local awareness of both global and local environmental problems and offers opportunities for direct action.
Amigos de la Tierra campaigns on
- Climate Change through the SOS Clima / The Big Ask campaign
- Genetically Modified Organisms
- Sustainable Agriculture and Food Sovereignty through European and international campaigns as well as local activities
- Waste reduction by promoting composting and better waste management systems
International Cooperation
Amigos de la Tierra cooperates with countries in Central America by channelling Spanish and EU funding towards sustainable development projects.
Environmental education plays an important role in FoE Spain's activities. FoE Spain has works with the Spanish Youth Council.
