Binding Treaty Plenary

*** Spokespeople available for comment and interview ***

Friends of the Earth International, the world’s largest grassroots environmental federation, is hosting a delegation of experts and activists at the 10th session of the United Nations negotiations for a Binding Treaty on Transnational Corporations (TNCs) and Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland. FoEI will be attending as a member of the Global Campaign to Reclaim Peoples’ Sovereignty, Dismantle Corporate Power and Stop Impunity (Global Campaign).

The group will highlight the urgent need for a legally binding instrument to regulate and hold accountable transnational corporations for their human rights violations. This will come with a push for the primacy of human rights to be reaffirmed relative to trade and investment treaties, direct legal obligations for TNCs, the full production and supply chains of TNCs to be covered, the establishment of an International Court and concrete measures to protect the process from corporate capture. FoEI will also be directly involved in the negotiations, side events and demonstrations to ensure that the Treaty recognises the moral and legitimate authority of those affected by the activities of TNCs, including human and environmental rights defenders and whistle blowers.

We will have spokespeople able to comment on the negotiations and their outcomes both in Geneva and remotely. See the full list of spokespeople and list of quotes by topic below.
