Friends of the Earth Australia is a federation of 13 independent local groups which are active throughout the country. It was founded in 1974, the same year it joined Friends of the Earth International. Its national campaigns are focused on all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, climate justice and support for the rights of indigenous people. Its national magazine, Chain Reaction, is published three times a year in English.

Other key campaign areas include land and water, economics for the earth, and sustainable food production.

Friends of the Earth Australia places considerable emphasis on working in close alliance with many other sectors of society.
