Amigos da Terra Brasil was founded in 1964 as a women’s organisation with a strong democratic mission. Since the early 70s, the organisation has been at the forefront of this nation’s environmental movement. Membership in Friends of the Earth International came in 1983, and major campaign areas include the Sustainable Societies Programme, as well as campaigns on coastal issues, water, GMOs, climate and forests. Recent campaigns have focused on consumption, garbage and recycling at the local level, while a national campaign centres on the Atlantic rainforest.

Note: Amigos da Terra Amazonia Brasileira is not a member of Friends of the Earth International
