Created in 1980, Friends of the Earth Japan was one of Japan’s first NGOs to work on international environmental problems. The organisation joined Friends of the Earth International in 1983.

Friends of the Earth Japan’s main campaigns are on climate change and energy, forest protection (in particular, promotion of sound forest use in the country), reform of Japanese and international financial institutions, and anti-nuclear.

They arrange day hikes in the Tokyo area every Sunday as well as ecotours and study tours overseas.
