April 26, 2007 — Friends of the Earth International today announces the launch of its second annual photo competition, which will gather photos on the theme of food & agriculture from around the globe.

The best shots will feature in a Friends of the Earth International 2008 wall calendar and in a cookbook.

We are looking for imaginative, striking photos related to food and agriculture around the world in the following categories:

1) people
2) nature’s bounty
3) markets
4) cooking and eating

The judges for this year’s competition include:

1) Yann Arthus-Bertrand, world renowned aerial photographer of the planet’s ecosystems [1]

2) Bangladeshi photographer G.M.B. Akash, first-place winner of last year’s Friends of the Earth International photo competition and cover photographer of the 2007 calendar [2]

3) Peter Menzel, US photojournalist and author of “Hungry Planet: What The World Eats” [3].

Our global photo competition is free of charge, and both professional and amateur photographers are invited to submit photos. We particularly encourage young people, women and people living in the developing world
to take part.

The deadline for entries is 15 June 2007.
