Friends of the Earth International’s proposal for the new Global Biodiversity Framework
In December 2022, Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will meet in Montreal, Canada, to determine the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). This meeting, known as the COP15, happens after the CBD’s 2011-2020 framework for action that set out 20 “Aichi targets” — which, unfortunately, have not been achieved. The CBD is a legally binding agreement.
In the lead up to CBD COP15, negotiations to develop the post-2020 Framework are undertaken by a dedicated open-ended working group, to which Friends of the Earth International contributes. Alongside allied organisations in the CBD Alliance, we have drawn up a list of ‘Dos and Don’ts’ for a successful framework. Specifically for the CBD COP15, our policy recommendations and targets are presented in this document.
