El Salvador: Communities fighting corporate power of agribusiness
Communities fighting corporate power of agribusiness in El Salvador.
In El Salvador agribusiness corporations like Bayer-Monsanto promote the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals, causing serious environmental and social impacts in rural communities, affecting the health of the people. We urgently need binding regulations to make corporations accountable and responsible for the devastating impacts of agribusiness worldwide.
We demand that governments support the UN Binding Treaty on Transnational Corporations and Human Rights. Large corporations currently dominate our food system. Six of the largest seed corporations dominate the global market. Ten agrotoxic companies control approximately 95% of the market. We need binding rules for transnational corporations. We need agriculture and food sovereignty for the peoples not corporations.
