We are the world’s largest grassroots environmental federation with 73 national member groups and millions of members and supporters around the world. Our member groups are organised in four regions: Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and The Caribbean, as well as in the USA and Canada.

Africa

Friends of the Earth Africa is a collective of sovereign organisations working with grassroots communities on environmental and rights-based struggles in the African region. We seek to contribute to the strengthening of national groups in Africa by developing collective strategies to understand, expose and dismantle the root causes for the overlapping crises we are facing in the region. Through continent-wide coordination, Friends of the Earth Africa works to build people power towards a common African agenda for environmental, economic, gender, and social justice.

Asia Pacific

The Asia Pacific region of Friends of the Earth is the most diverse, encompassing member groups from the global North and the global South. They work hand-in-hand with Indigenous Peoples, grassroots communities, peasant farmers, fisherfolk, trade unions, and feminist movements, to create environmentally sustainable and socially just societies.

Europe

Friends of the Earth Europe is the largest grassroots environmental network in Europe, uniting more than 30 national organisations with thousands of local groups. The Brussels office coordinates the network’s joint campaigns, and pushes for action by the EU to protect people and planet. They campaign for a just, sustainable future at the EU level and across Europe.

Latin America and the Caribbean

Friends of the Earth Latin America and the Caribbean (Amigos de la Tierra América Latina y el Caribe, or ATALC) is the regional structure bringing together member groups from 14 countries. ATALC’s work is based on the perspective that environmental, social, economic and gender justice are interconnected and feed into each other, and that the defence of peoples' rights is fundamental. From this perspective, ATALC has made medium and long-term strategic alliances with Latin American social movements, articulated in the Continental Day for democracy and against neoliberalism (la Jornada Continental por la Democracia y contra el neoliberalismo).

USA and Canada

We also have a member group in the United States that works on issues such as climate, energy, agriculture, oceans and forests; while also seeking to transform our economic, financial and political systems to create a just and healthy world.

And a group in Canada that works on issues such as climate, energy, plastic pollution and biodiversity, in particular pollinator challenges, while addressing equity and environmental justice.
