The Live Earth initiative and concerts are an invaluable opportunity to catalyze action on climate change. Some Friends of the Earth groups are involved with Live Earth initiatives nationally, but Friends of the Earth International is not directly involved with Live Earth.

The millions of people that support the Live Earth pledge demonstrate that there is an overwhelming public support for strong and immediate action on climate change.

Without serious and immediate action on climate change, the lives of millions if not billions of people is at risk as the seas swell, droughts extend, temperatures rise, pests and disease spread.

Without decreasing greenhouse gas emissions in the coming decade, scientists believe that up to 30% of plants and animals on the planet could become extinct.

Friends of the Earth International supports immediate and deep targets for emissions reduction. The response to climate change must be based on equitable sharing of the earths resources, therefore onus of responsibility for action on climate change is largely the burden of the Global North.

Friends of the Earth also believes that climate justice will be achieved when emissions are sufficiently reduced, polluters accept responsibility for damages and economic drivers of environmental destruction and overconsumption are abandoned.
